I am a Myrtle Beach doula and childbirth educator providing local doula services and private Myrtle Beach childbirth classes. I have been involved in pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding since 2004 when I began working for Lamaze International at their headquarter office in Washington DC. In 2010, I began managing the Lamaze parents’ blog, Giving Birth with Confidence. I began doula and childbirth educator work in 2012. I earned my Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) in 2014 and my Certified DONA Doula (CD(DONA)) certification in 2015. I trained as a doula at the prestigious Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations in Seattle, WA, and through Passion for Birth for Lamaze education.
After many years of writing and researching birth, I knew I wanted to be more involved directly with helping women and their families through this amazing — and challenging — process. I believe that women deserve to be informed on and supported in their choices during the prenatal period, birth, and postpartum. As a doula, my role is to help aid that process so that women and their family are informed leading up to their birth and throughout postpartum, supported continuously through birth, and have adequate resources and support during postpartum. As a childbirth educator and doula, I believe in providing parents with comprehensive, evidence-based information so they can make informed decisions and the best choices for their family.
My personal experience with birth began in 2006 when I gave birth to my first child. I liked it so much, I did it again in 2008 and 2011! Each of my births has been different and brought with it a new perspective on the process. Like many women, there were moments I treasured and things I wish could have been different. With each one, however, I recognized the true value of good childbirth education and support from a doula. I am honored to be able to fullfil that role for birthing families.
